Some high schools ban Valentine's Day exchanges | StAugustine.com
I think the principle may have been broken up with recently and didn't want to have to deal with all the other happiness going around. It is one day of distraction that has been around for a long time. There has to be more reasons behind this principles decision.
The actions that the high schools took were not right. Schools need to know where to draw the line. They crossed the line by banning students to bring in gifts and candies for people that they care about. Valentine’s Day is a holiday/celebration that most people celebrate. It is like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc... If the student has a lot of gifts that distracts everyone, the teacher can just tell him/her to put it in his/her locker or leave it in their classroom until the end of the day. Simple as that.
