This week’s “breakthrough” announcement with Sprint may be the first sign of a thaw in relations between the radio and wireless industries. Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan, who spearheaded radio’s efforts over the past five years, says the industry is in “advanced discussions” with other carriers but it’s difficult to gauge when they may announce they’re following Sprint’s lead.

Would you listen to over-the-air radio on your cell phone if you could?

  2. Only Sprint customers at first, but the thinking in the radio industry is now that Sprint has made the commitment, AT&T & Verizon will follow soon.
