Was It Appropriate for Beyonce to Lip-Sync the National Anthem?

It has been speculated that Beyonce lip-synced the National Anthem at President Obama's Inauguration. Why? Why would you lip-sync the National Anthem? It's not like you don't know the words (if she didn't know the lyrics the lip syncing would be overshadowed). Granted, musicians are caught lip syncing all the time. Remember Ashlee Simpson's mishap on Saturday Night Live? Anyway, Beyonce's reasoning for lip-syncing the national anthem was that she "didn't have time to rehearse with the Marine Corp Band".  This article reveals the details or her performance, the insider who explains the circumstances, and her decision to follow through with the recording.

Regardless of why Beyonce lip-synced, was it appropriate for the occasion? Did she make a good decision? Do you think this will impact her image or fan base?

  1. I think it's beyonce. She will always have a fan base. Also with all the pressure of singing and performing without rehearsal, I'd understand if an artist wanted to opt for a pre recording. This article gives a bit of a defense for beyonce in pointing out the pressure we put on people for singing the national anthem, rather than focusing on the real event, and that's the president. http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2013/01/want-singers-to-do-the-national-anthem-live-dont-ridicule-flubs/267441/

  2. Agreeing with the people above me, Beyonce is a well known singer and probably will have a slim to none chance of losing her fan base; but I do think it was wrong of her to lip-sync because there was not enough time for her and the band to practice together. Being in the industry she is in, time management is crucial which she should have mastered well in her early years of become a star. I also think no matter how busy her schedule was, preforming in front of the president is a big deal, and out of respect she should have put her best foot forward.
